Chili dog pizza has all the makings of a great game-day recipe. It's flavorful, fun and shareable for a crowd—and requires only five shortcut ingredients.

Chili dog pizza is the ultimate comfort food mashup, especially when your crowd has split into two warring factions over what it wants for dinner. Now everyone can win! Once you’ve tasted the tangy mustard kick, smoky-salty slices of hot dogs, hearty chili and gooey cheddar all in one glorious bite, you’ll question why we ever separated chili dogs and pizza in the first place. This creative collab delivers for the pizza fans and still makes the stadium hot dog folks cheer. The kid-friendly dinner will make any dreary weeknight more fun, and it’s the perfect way to feed your next tailgate party.

Chili Dog Pizza Ingredients

  • Pizza crust: The ultimate shortcut here is to use refrigerated pizza dough (from a can or bag, depending on where you buy it). It bakes up golden and crisp without the fuss of kneading or rising. You can even use a premade pizza crust.
  • Yellow mustard: The tangy flavor of yellow mustard cuts through the richness of the chili and cheese, giving this chili cheese dog pizza its signature zing.
  • Chili with beans: This hearty topping adds savory depth and protein. Grab your favorite canned chili or use leftover homemade chili for an upgrade.
  • Hot dogs: Sliced hot dogs bring ballpark nostalgia and a smoky bite to every slice. You can use beef, pork, turkey or plant-based dogs.
  • Cheddar cheese: Sharp cheddar melts beautifully, adding both creamy texture and salty, cheesy goodness to balance the chili.
  • Chopped onion and sweet pickle relish: For a true chili dog finish, add these optional toppings after baking the pizza. The onion adds crunch and bite, while the relish brings sweet, tangy pops of flavor.

Directions

Step 1: Bake the crust

Preheat your oven to 425°. Unroll and press the dough into the bottom of a greased 15x10x1-inch baking pan. Bake the crust until the edges are lightly browned, five to seven minutes.

Editor’s Tip: Prebaking the pizza dough keeps the crust from turning soggy once the toppings are added. If you like an extra-crisp crust, brush it lightly with olive oil before the first bake.

Step 2: Layer on the toppings

Spread the crust with mustard and top it with chili, hot dogs and cheese.

Step 3: Bake until bubbly

Bake the chili dog pizza until the crust is golden and the cheese is melted, about 10 to 15 minutes. If desired, sprinkle it with onion and add relish.

Chili Dog Pizza Variations

  • Make it better with bacon: Add crumbled cooked bacon before baking the pizza for an even smokier, saltier bite.
  • Spice it up: Use a different type of mustard. Try spicy brown or Dijon mustard, or for some real kick, use a chili with added jalapenos or hot sauce.
  • Get creative with toppings: After baking, pile on additional toppings like diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce or crushed corn chips.

How to Store Chili Dog Pizza

Cool leftover chili dog pizza completely before storing. Place slices in an airtight container or wrap them tightly in foil, then refrigerate them. Stored properly, the pizza will last for three to four days.

How should you reheat chili cheese dog pizza?

To reheat chili cheese dog pizza, place slices on a baking sheet and warm them in a 350° oven for 8 to 10 minutes, or until they’re heated through. This keeps the crust crisp while melting the cheese back to gooey perfection.

Can you use homemade pizza crust for chili dog pizza?

Absolutely. A homemade pizza crust can be a chewier, fresher base if you want to take this recipe up a notch. Just make sure to prebake it slightly before adding the toppings so it stays crisp.

What else can you serve with chili dog pizza?

Pair chili dog pizza with oven-baked fries or a simple coleslaw to keep with the diner-meets-backyard-barbecue theme. A crisp green salad also helps balance all that cheesy, chili-rich goodness. And if you’ve gotten this far, you might as well finish it off with a sweet treat. How about a banana split or a big slice of cherry pie?
