We Tried a Stanley Flask and It’s a Seriously Underrated Accessory

My husband doesn’t drink, so I’m always the only one bringing bourbon camping or honey whiskey celebrating. While showing up to a function with a fifth-sized bottle certainly signifies that it’s party time, it’s also not a practical way to pack. For adventurers who want to warm themselves with a small shot in their coffee or a sip at a campfire, a good flask is a must-have.

After trying the Adventure Pre-Party Stanley flask for a few months, I’ve determined that it’s is the perfect pick for trailblazers, tailgaters and merrymakers. After bringing it to parties, sporting events, camping and even hauling it along as a makeshift water bottle, I’m totally smitten with my spirit holder. What is the Stanley Flask?

The Adventure Pre-Party Stanley flask is a small, pocket-sized travel flask for camping, travel and tailgating. Like the rest of Stanley’s lineup—including the internet-famous Quencher tumbler—it’s made of BPA-free materials including 18/8 stainless steel. It boasts a small opening with a threaded screw-on top that’s attached to the flask via a plastic lever. And, of course, it comes in a variety of Stanley’s signature shades.

How We Tested It

I’ve had my St. Patrick’s Day Stanley flask since early March 2025. Since then, it’s been with me on a variety of expeditions, including a birthday party, St. Patrick’s Day celebration and even on the road as an impromptu water tumbler. Throughout all of my travels, this trusty flask has taken its fair share of bumps and small drops and is still in pretty good condition. I trialed the Stanley flask by using it for a fleet of fun activities, giving me plenty of time to test it from fill to sip.

Filling

As with any flask, filling the Stanley flask is a bit tricky. But, with careful hands, it’s definitely possible to fill it without spilling any of your favorite spirit. The lid of the flask is simple enough to secure, given that it’s a threaded screw-on top. While I haven’t noticed any issues with cross threading or stripping, some reviewers mention that as a sticking point. I try to be as gentle as I can when replacing the top, just to be on the safe side.

I’d love to see Stanley eventually include a small funnel alongside their flasks for a better experience, but until then I’ll use a standard stainless steel funnel set for easier access.

Sipping

The spout of the flask is about an inch across, so it’s definitely on the small side. While some may prefer a wider mouth, I find it the perfect size for pouring small portions and sipping. I urge folks to stick to lukewarm, cold and room-temperature drinks. The flask isn’t insulated, so it’s dangerous to carry around hot liquids. Plus, the narrow opening isn’t constructed with hot liquids in mind.

Taking

Since the flask weighs less than a half-pound, it’s easy to carry. Additionally, at just under six inches tall and just under three inches across, it easily slips into pockets, backpacks, bags and other gear. I’ve put it in my purse several times and haven’t experienced any leaks. I also love that the top screws on and off and comes permanently attached to the flask via a plastic lanyard. No more missing lids!

Admittedly, the flask doesn’t feel heavy and durable, but for my purposes, it’s perfect. I wouldn’t take this on a trip to the Andes, but the lightweight construction makes it ideal for easier terrain and simple tailgating. Plus, the pretty colors draw so many compliments at parties!

Cleaning

While the flask is made from the same 18/8 stainless steel and other BPA-free materials as Stanley’s coffee tumblers, it is not dishwasher-safe. Because the brand recommends hand-washing, I find it a little on the difficult side to clean. Personally, I invested in a few clever dishwashing products to make it a little easier, including a bottle brush and some Bottle Bright tablets.

Final Verdict

The Adventure Pre-Party Stanley flask is an excellent lightweight flask for the intrepid explorer. While it doesn’t feel as sturdy as its pricier competitors, with proper care, it should last at least a few years. I’ve yet to see any cracks, dents or scratches, even after it has bounced around in my car for several days following a trip. Those seeking a solid, affordable flask in a variety of fun shades will find the Stanley flask a great overall option.
