Mushroom coffee, for the uninitiated, is akin to instant coffee. However, instead of triggering jitters and gastro upset, mushroom coffee can provide relaxing benefits and promote gut health. Plus, it still contains enough caffeine to give a nice pick-me-up during busy afternoons!

As existing fans of the Atlas coffee subscription, we’re always excited when the brand announces a new product. Naturally, when it debuted a new mushroom coffee superblend in its caffeinated lineup this year, we couldn’t wait to try it. Not only did it impress our editors with its flavor and benefits, but it was good enough to land a place as our best food and beverage product of 2025. Here’s why we can’t stop sipping!

Atlas+ Coffee Superblend

Need a drink that goes beyond caffeine? Atlas+ superblend is worth a try—especially for midday focus and gut support.

What is Atlas mushroom coffee?

Atlas mushroom coffee is a newcomer to the mushroom coffee market. The brew comes in a powdered form, similar to instant coffee. Just mix up 1-2 scoops with around five ounces of warm water. Or, opt for 3-4 scoops in around seven ounces of water for a more concentrated drink.

Each serving is packed with 2,250 mg of functional mushrooms, including ashwagandha, reishi, lion’s mane and cordyceps. Additionally, inside are benefits from ingredients such as cassia cinnamon, probiotics, prebiotics, L-theanine, collagen and vitamins D3 and B12. There’s also only around 45mg of caffeine per serving, which is about equal to half a cup of coffee or a can of soda.

We’re all familiar with the benefits of prebiotics and probiotics for gut health. Cassia cinnamon also lends itself to digestion, while L-theanine helps promote relaxation, which balances out any jittery effects of the caffeine. Additionally, vitamin D3 helps the body absorb calcium, benefitting the immune system as well as bone, muscle and nerve health. Vitamin B12 is perhaps the most important inclusion, as it’s essential for brain health and difficult to find outside of meaty proteins.

In particular, the collagen is an impressive addition not typically found in other popular brands. From my time working at a beauty counter, I know that collagen really only benefits the body from the inside out, rather than applying it topically. That is, ingesting it is the best way to see an improvement in skin health.

Why We Love It

Atlas Mushroom Coffee
Emily Way For Taste Of Home

Deputy Shopping Editor Katie Bandurski is no stranger to Atlas coffee. She tested the coffee subscription service twice, both in 2023 and 2024. Then, she tested the Atlas+ superblend upon its release. Overall, Katie came away impressed with the noticeable benefits.

“I was shocked to learn there’s only 45 mg of caffeine in each serving,” Katie explains. “I noticed an immediate difference in clarity and energy that picked me out of my afternoon slump.” Benefits aside, Katie also notes that it’s one of the better blends she’s enjoyed.

“It tastes like a lot of instant coffees, bitter with a slightly chalky mouthfeel,” she says. “There’s no complexity or balanced flavor like you get with brewed coffee, but it’s considerably better than other mushroom coffees I’ve tried.” That said, those who are new to mushroom coffees and prefer a more approachable flavor can snag a bag of the latte blend instead. It’s my favorite way to reap the benefits!

As someone who has never had mushroom coffee, Katie’s review piqued my interest. I’ve been drinking both the coffee and the latte blend for about a month now. The latte blend has a nice coconut flavor, which masks the bitter undertones Katie noted quite well. I use my handheld frother to mix up around 3-4 scoops of the powder with eight ounces of warm (not hot) water. The result resembles a frothy latte in look, but with all the added benefits of mushroom coffee built in!

Atlas mushroom coffee is an easy way to blend healthy benefits into your morning or midday cup. After all, who likes swallowing a fleet of vitamins every morning when they can just drink their daily nutrients instead? Plus, the inclusion of B12 and collagen makes this a great way for vegetarians and vegans to get essential nutrients primarily found in meat.
